The Ever After team is passionate about wedding films and wants to see the industry flourish. Our courses and training materials are designed to inspire and invigorate fellow videographers. We are happy to discuss any of our methods from fliming and editing to marketing and sales as this can only help our industry and improve its market and image.

The Ever After team has been an IOV member since our company was set up in 2002. Over the years we’ve found it to be a valuable source of information and as we started to grow, we enjoyed running seminars at the anual convention as well as speak at local IOV meetings.

We’re pleased to announce that Ever After has now become one of the first IOV Academy members. We are proud to be part of this pilot-scheme and were happy to complete the required exam with full marks in all sections. The big benefit to anyone attending any of our courses is a free 3 month IOV student membership as well as the knowledge that our training passed the scrutiny of fellow professionals.

Make use of this new benefit, and have a look at our next workshop on 15 May.

UPDATE: only 2 places left on this workshop

With the 2010 wedding season upon us, Ever After are excited to offer a 1 day workshop marathon in Sheffield. Starting 8:30am and ending around 9 pm (including lunch and dinner), this workshop will be packed with information and hands-on shooting. The day will focus on filming and editing techniques without forgetting real business life issues such as marketing. The shoot-outs are a great opportunity to try out some new techniques without the stress of a wedding day. Our ‘bride for the day’ will make sure you can get some killer shots for a demo reel.

As this day will be very intense, we’re limiting the workshop to 5 places. Some snacks, a light lunch and dinner are included as well as transportation between the various locations.  For more information and to book your place on the workshop, have a look at our workshop page. Here are a few pictures from our last workshop kindly provided by Rob Burress from shooting hip.

On the 18th of February, we set off early in the morning, a car fully loaded, to the Black Mountains in Wales for the Ever After Weekend Workshop. We’d been preparing for this weekend for a couple of months and it was finally all coming together. We had kept an eye on the weather forecast for a while but it kept changing from nice and sunny to wintery snow showers on an hourly basis, so we were prepared for both the best and the worst weather. Well, it turned out to be pretty much the worst. The day and night before we set off it started snowing big time in Capel-y-Ffin and our accommodation for the weekend was high up in the hills. We arrived in the afternoon to find that getting up the driveway may be an issue. We’re talking a 200 metres steep driveway covered in snow. After trying to dig out a path for close to 2 hours, we finally had to give up and carry everything up. This included all the camera equipment, a large television, training materials and probably most importantly all the food and drinks. Only one 4×4 car managed to make it up the hill that evening. The Ever After Weekend Workshop was quickly renamed as “Adventures by Ever After”. Luckily everybody made it safe and well, including our bride and groom, Tineke and Wim, who came over from Belgium especially.

By the next morning we had a fresh load of snow, but now everyone could clearly see the amazing setting we were in. We started the day with a session on filming techniques which was then put into practise during our first shoot out session, a bridal prep. We had enrolled the help of Kate Petersen as the hair and make up artist.  After lunch, there was another shoot out session with Rob Burress from ShootingHip.com where we demonstrated how to make the most out of a photo session and how to work with and around a photographer. Then, after a session on marketing, we finished the day with a lovely dinner and drinks.

The last day began with a seminar on sound, from acquisition to clean up and disaster recovery methods. This turned out to be quite the eye opener for most. Then it was time for the last shoot out of the weekend where everyone could put to practise some more of the skills and ideas we taught them the day before. After lunch it was time for the big editing session. This covered all the bases: from how to shorten ceremonies and speeches cleverly, to getting the most out of music;  from colour correcting and colour grading to final delivery.

We certainly gave our attendees a lot to take home and think about, all were perfectly satiated and excited about their next weddings where they could put all the things they learned to practise. And going back down that hill that proved to be such a pain on Friday evening, was by now a doddle.

*** Update: only a few places left. *****

Ever After is very excited to announce the dates for our next training weekend. This comprehensive workshop will take place over 3 days, starting on Friday 19 February 2010,  with an informal get-together evening and intensive training on Saturday and Sunday. The focus will be on hands-on experience in both filming and editing techniques. We will be staging a bridal prep and photo shoot to give everyone the opportunity to get some killer shots for a demo reel without the pressure of a real wedding. To aid with this, we’ve enrolled the talents of the fabulous Rob Burress of Shooting Hip Photography. Not ignoring the reality of every business, we will also discuss our marketing and business strategies. Last, but not least, every attendee will get a copy of our latest demo reel.

The location of the workshop will be the secluded Castle Farm in the middle of the Black Mountains and Brecon Beacons, on the border of England and Wales. The setting is completely isolated, with not a neighbour in sight, yet is only 2.5 hours from London.. We have the exclusive use of these gorgeous facilities, rooms and meals are included in the price of the workshop.

Last weekend we hosted our very first 2 day workshop in Sheffield. A big thank you to all those involved. We had a great time and felt privileged to be able to organise this. I think it is fair to say we all had a great time and I’m sure everyone got some killer shots. An extra thank you to Carl and Jenny from class1weddings for wearing 2 hats: video and photography. We will upload some video from the workshop in the next few weeks, but here’s a link to a slide show that Carl created on the first evening: Slide show training

Here’s a gallery with some more pictures taken at the workshop, courtesy of class1weddings.
